A Day in the Life of Two Real People with Diabetes
I have been eating low carb to support my husband who has T2D. My BMI is now 20. My triglycerides are 66. HDL 102. HOMA-IR 0.5. Fasting Glucose 80 Fasting Insulin 2.5. LDL and ApoB have risen. What the heck has gone wrong as my HbA1C has climbed to 5.8 Am I not making enough insulin to open the doors to clear glucose? I am obviously (with these numbers) insulin sensitive. Can anyone help me out?
Good but have no pets.
I was finding your UA-cam Page interesting ...until you called me a loser because I didn't have a CGM .. You do know that takes money and actually quite a lot of money.. For me maybe not for you! and if you don't have money or the insurance to cover it...well.. how dare you! How dare you call anyone a loser being informative is wonderful but Don't call people names it's wrong!!
Thank you for sharing. I went from pre to T2 to Lada in a month! Total confusion. Thanks to a cardiologist in my church who said I needed to see an endocrinologist. Acheron the blood work it took 2 months to determine what I had!
Yes, unfortunately that's a common situation. Glad you were able to get pointed in the right direction to see an endo, and received an accurate diagnosis!
Why would you leave a needle in an insulin pen. Do not do this. You were just asking for bacteria to get in that pen and asking for an infection
Agree...we would never leave it in there. Apologize if that's what you thought we meant.
What a great presentation of this CGM I agree everything you both have stated that's why I use Eversense CGM for my life I've tried all three and it definitely is my favorite by far and believe it or not October 1st of this year the 365 day will come out with only one calibration per week I'm so excited to try that The only one thing I would correct you both on is the watches when you said you can have your readings on Android or iOS sad to say it's only Apple I have an Android and they still haven't come out with that platform hopefully soon again kudos🎉🎉🎉
Glad it's working out for you - it's a great product. Choice is important, and it sounds like it's the right choice for you!
If one was tested for type 1 and lada gad 65 antibodies and came negative.. is it possible to develop it overtime since I don’t fit in the perfil for type 2? I was tested for mody too. Negative. Metformin hasn’t move my numbers, actually my a1c went from 5.9 to 6.1 while on it
It sounds like we aren't sure exactly what type of diabetes you have, but you do have insulin secretion based on your numbers, and your A1c is extremely low. Do not worry. If your A1c starts to creep up further you can be tested for type 1 again, and there are multiple autoantibodies you can test. You can read more about that here: tcoyd.org/2023/10/i-screen-you-screenwhy-everyone-should-be-screened-for-t1d/
@@TCOYDtv is it? My dr told me anything above 6 was considered diabetes and since I come from a long family history of diabetes she told me it’s in my genes and urged me to start the max dose of metformin (2000mg) I can’t handle and been taking 1000 but it’s not doing anything for my numbers. I been stressing over a lot. Thank you for your reply.
@@TCOYDtv does my numbers sounds like insulin resistance? Metformin hasn’t been working
I am 34 yrs old, got gestational diabetes at 29 and have been prediabetic ever since. I am normal, actually on the lower side of weight since I lost 10 pounds while on metformin.. I was tested for type 1 and ñada and came negative 😢 my a1c it’s 6.1 and fasting insulin 8. Before starting metformin a1c was 5.9 and insulin 6.9 😢 I been tested for a couple genes for mody and came negative too
Please see our other posted response -
My a1c has been 5.9 the last couple yes.. I recently was checked for insulin and It was 6.. Dr told me I don’t for for type 2.: and I was tested for type1 and lada and came negative. I was check for the 3 main genes for mody and came negative too. I am lost at what to do. My a1c recently was 6.1 and insulin 8 but all the other wellness test were perfect. Metformin it’s not working. Is that normal for type1? I am 34 yrs old, got gestational diabetes at 29.. and been prediabetic ever since. Normal weight.. I am actually on the lower side since I lost a couple pounds while on metformin.. I was hoping my numbers were better but a1c today was 6.1

What if you’re type 2 but testing. How do you pack testing pricks?
Traveling with testing supplies is not a problem.
Love the dream!
Haha! Yes, we do too! 😁🏝️
I listened to the entire song on a YT ad. This song is so catchy. 😂💜💜
Wow, that's high praise! Yeah it kinda sticks in your head! :)
@TCOYDtv Yes, it really does! And, thank you for spreading awareness about diabetes. 💜
Our pleasure...thanks for being part of the TCOYD fam. 😊
R these 2 guys married to each other?
No. They are both MDs who have T1D.
No but they are besties!
I wish y’all had a version of We Are ONE for Type 2 diabetics
We hope to have one someday too!
I loved this video. I’m so alone. It makes me feel like I belong to something even though it’s awful to have it.
Made me feel a little bit better reminding me I'm not the one going thru this - got it at 23 and now 81 can you believe it? You guys are so talented, and I thank you for all you do. Stay well. Karen fromsddachusetts.
Oh my goodness! You are a rockstar! 👏 Thanks for being part of the TCOYD community - it does help so much to connect with others going through the same things. 💛
Hi Deanna, you SO belong!! Having type 1 is no fun, but there is a very large, caring community of people going through the same thing, and it does make a difference to be able to connect with each other. Hope you can make it to ONE this year or sometime in the near future - they really are super uplifting and fun.
I just started the video and you are already reading my life.. 😅
That's so nice of you to say. If you have questions about anything, please let us know!
Excited for this technology. Tandem needs to get on the ball and integrate this with their pumps!!!
Eversense, which has an excellent sensor, is now looking for a pump partner. There has not been an official announcement yet, but hopefully it will come soon. Tandem has already partnered with Dexcom and FreeStyle Libre and it does take a lot of software integration every time they integrate with another sensor. It may be a different pump for Eversense, but at this point we just don't know.
Thank you for the honest and informative video. Seen so many videos that just give you the same info of "don't drink too much". Information is power, we need to know this information so we can make our own decisions based on our diabetes and bodies.
Exactly! Thanks so much for your comment. Cheers! 🍻
This may sound ridiculous, but I was diagnosed with type 1 2 years ago, and I've only ever used a pump. I am so scared to do injections. Is that a common fear??
Yes, it's very common. It's important to get the shortest and most fine needles that embecta makes (formerly BD), and to have a good technique. Don't go slow, go in pretty quickly, and most of the time you won't feel it. It's nothing like putting in an infusion line for your pump.
Problem can be solved if all doctors AUTOMATICALLY kept testing C-PEPTIDE AND ANTIBODIES in diabetics when they are struggling and being compliant. Tests aren't expensive! Stop not believing patients when they say something is really wrong! If mine would have, I wouldn't have so much trauma now.
So sorry to hear that you went through a tough experience. It's a big ship to turn around and will take time, but hopefully more doctors are being educated.
Great info.. started pump a month ago and going into yhe summer this information is very helpful..thx
Sure thing - hope it works well for you.
I was expecting to at least see who was cueing the blow up toys. Or behind the scenes of Dr. P blowing air into them manually while Dr. E hides the electric air pump and persists that it's a new affordable lung function test!
Haha! We should have thought of that!
Thank yall for showing realistic experiences AND showing it is ok to not be perfect! Keep trying and learning and not being too hard on yourself.
Exactly - thanks Jason!
Is it possible to get LADA at 23 years old and need insulin right away?
Posting here too in case you don't see our other comment on the other video: Because you have positive antibodies, you have type 1 diabetes, and LADA means that you picked it up so early, you didn't have symptoms or your blood sugar wasn't totally through the roof. It doesn't sound like you ever went into ketoacidosis, and you were able to tolerate the high blood sugars, so I think you may have had LADA that was just poorly treated, and because you had LADA you didn't go into ketoacidosis like most type 1s. The bottom line is that you have type 1 diabetes and it sounds like you're doing great on insulin. I hope you have a CGM and would consider a hybrid closed-loop system one of these days.
Within 2-3 months I lost 80 lbs without trying, drinking gallons of water and peeing all the time. I went to my family physician at 23 and was told I had type 2 diabetes. My a1c was 14.2. They gave me 8 weeks of Actos and I made a followup appointment. While getting a blood draw I passed out onto the floor and do not remember what happened or how I got to the floor in the hallway from the chair --- then just suddenly remember four doctors asking me what I ate for lunch (fasting glucose was "only" 350s). Was this diagnosis supposed to be LADA instead? The summer before the same doctor said I had prediabetes and I had a fasting glucose of 123. A few weeks later after my passing out at the doctors office I started college and found a CDE. She got me a proper doctor and they tested me for my a1c (14) and I tested positive for the GAD antibodies. My c-peptide was super low. They put me on Lantus and Novolog right away and my a1c came back down to the 6's. Since I was still in my 20's is this type 1 or is this LADA? I didn't have high blood pressure or cholesterol, didn't have DKA (that I know of) or go to the hospital.

hi its Dr Bhatti Associate professor Consultant Endocrinologist at LUMHS hyderabad Pakistan. very nice comprehensive lecture
Thank you Dr. Bhatti...appreciate it.
Heres an Idea: Transfer the Gvoke Glucagon into a generic reusable cartridge pen. You can then dial in units and have a dedicated glucagon pen (no vials or syringes). Seems you can buy cheap empty pens online. Thoughts?
Wow! That’s a great idea! You have to realize that this would be a totally off-label approach that would be not approved by the company or the FDA. One vial of glucagon that you buy only has 1 mg in it, so there are not too many units, so you might have to fill up a syringe partly using 3-4 vials. You’d have to make sure the vials are sterile and stable as well. There’s just not much volume to do 1 mg, that’s one issue, and you’d need to make sure there are no air bubbles also. Again, not an approved approach, but we like your creative, outside-the-box thinking!
@@TCOYDtv Yes, I'm aware that it's not approved. A creative approach. If conversion is 1 unit = 0.0347 mg, for 1mg of glucagon you get 28 units. Not bad ?
I'm not 100% sure. You should read the information that Gary Scheiner puts out. His organization Integrated Diabetes also does personal coaching for people with T1D if you would like to speak to someone directly about it. Thanks again for your comments and let us know how you do if you try it!
Thank you very much for this and all podcasts; very informative 👏👏
Thanks - appreciate it!
His comments make sense. A pump will improve control over shots for basal and bolus insulins. So injection users going to any pump will be pleased. But Tandem pump users will be disappointed going to the lesser iLet pump because they were capable of getting great control with the Tandem pump. But the iLet pump only allows mediocre control. Effortless mediocre control, but not as good control as possible with the Tandem pump if you put in the effort.
Yes, the Tandem pump definitely offers more personal control, but it's important to have options for people to manage their diabetes in different ways.
Love it!
Appreciate it!
Wonderful eye-opening video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I love these eating test videos!

Really informative! Thank you!

Awesome video!
Thanks - had fun making this one!
Just stumbled across this podcast. Really informative. I have been diagnosed, at 48 insulin dependent. Not type 1 or type 2 but in between as my pancreas gave up after 6 pancreatitis attacks over 25 years. Ozempic was to blame for one. Alcohol and diet the others. It would be interesting to know more about this type of failure of the pancreas .
So sorry to hear about your situation. Thanks for the topic idea, and hope we have some resources in the meantime that can be of assistance.
Love the 805!
Haha! Yes, it's delish!
Jake Leach said on a podcast if you are still having trouble with connectivity then turn off the WiFi on your phone and it should help. I do this when I’m in large crowds and tend to lose signal. Seems to work well.
Interesting...thanks for the tip!
If I knew Dr. Edelman I would be rudely inviting myself over to his house all SUMMER to use his amazing pool!!

Can a type 1 diabetic person smoke weed
Only if you share! Of course it's fine, but look out for the munchies, and make sure it's legal in your state.
@@TCOYDtv thank you for the answer
Great video guys, thanks. Re. mini dosing for exercise or repeat hypoglycaemia at night or say with bouts of gastro, how quickly will glucagon get to work raising BG levels and how long will effects last wld you estimate?
P.s. in UK, NHS distribute the orange hatd-cased Glucagon HypoKit as Gvoke is totally overpriced and Baqsimi is not yet available.
It starts to work within 10-15 min, and it usually lasts 60-90 minutes. In the clinical studies in adults that got the full dose (1 mg) of glucagon, the blood sugar went up approximately 150-180 mg over the baseline they were at when they got the injection, which was around 50. And yes, we wish we had control over the pricing!
You two are so funny. Thanks for reporting the news with style.
Thanks - appreciate it!
